Data Sharing Opt Out

Patient data is used every day to improve healthcare services through planning and research in England, helping to find better treatments and improve patient care.
It helps to decide what new health and care services are required in a local area, informs clinical guidance and policy, and supports researching and developing cures for serious illnesses, such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.
NHS Digital is designing a new system for extracting data from GP records which is called General Practice Data for Planning and Research (GPDPR). This is replacing an old system called General Practice Extraction Service (GPES).
On the NHS Digital website, it explains what data they are planning to collect from GP records, and how and why they plan to use this data.

If you wish to, you can opt out of sharing your data with NHS Digital. This will not affect the care you receive. However, if large numbers of people opt out, this makes it more difficult for the NHS to plan services and conduct research.
